10 Journal Prompts for Happiness
I woke up today to a bit of an ice storm. Last week where I live, temps dropped to a frigid negative 15 degrees. The sun hasn’t come out in a long time . Y’all, it’s the middle of winter, and it’s gettin’ rough! There is also about a foot of snow on the ground, and it is starting to look messy. It is one of those days where it just seems…dull. Soooo….. I thought it would be a great day to put together a list of journal prompts to get the happiness wheels turning in my brain! Even though it is cold and grey outside, it is it’s own kind of beautiful and I know it won’t last. The days are already getting longer, and warmer temperatures are right around the corner! Alright, alright, I know it is only January, but I’m looking on the brightside here! Journaling can be an awesome way to get our minds thinking intentionally, and it can turn on our creativity as well. If you are also feeling like you need to pull yourself out of the winter blues, grab a notebook and jot down a response to one of the prompts below- hopefully it makes a difference in your day as I know it will for mine!
Write about a person who has positively impacted your life and why. Do you remember when you met them? What are some significant moments you have shared with them?
Make a list of things that are upcoming in your life that you are looking forward to, and what you are excited about. Or, make a list of things you would like to do, and a baby step you can take to make them happen.
Write about a time you accomplished something that was hard, and how you felt when you did it. Did you believe when you started that you could do it, or did you have doubts? If so, how did you overcome them?
Think about a time when you were truly, absolutely content. Where were you? What made it special? What time of year was it? Do you remember what you were listening to, or who you were with? Write down your thoughts.
Who is someone you know that always lifts your spirit, and how you impact them in return.
Write down three ideas of how you can positively impact other people this week.
What is a hobby or activity that makes you feel happy? When was the last time you were able to make time for it? When can you do it next? How did you get into the hobby or activity?
Think about the last week or month and make a list of five small moments that filled you with happiness.
What is an area of your life you are working to improve, or a goal you are hoping to achieve? Write about how far you have come, and what it means to you.
Write about your perfect day, from the time you waky up to the time you go to sleep. Will you spend it alone? If not, who will you see? What will you take comfort, pleasure, and solace in? Can you incorporate anything from your perfect day into your everyday?
